Submission Guidelines

AI Film Festival Biberach an der Riß

The AI Film Festival Biberach an der Riß is dedicated to films in which artificial intelligence plays a significant role in the creative production process. Innovative short- and long-form works that explore new forms of cinematic storytelling through AI are invited for submission.

Categories

  • Shorty – up to 30 minutes
  • Sixty – over 30 minutes up to a maximum of 60 minutes

Both premieres and repeat screenings are eligible, provided the film is not older than two years.

Submission Fee

  • €19 – Early Bird until 30 June 2026
    (administrative and processing fee, non-refundable)
  • €25 – from 1 July until the submission deadline

Technical Requirements

  • Resolution: Full HD (1920 × 1080)
  • Frame Rate: 24–30 FPS, progressive, not interlaced
  • Audio: Stereo; Dolby formats up to 5.1 surround are also accepted
  • File Format: MP4 / H.264 or MKV
  • Audio Codec: AAC

The film must be accessible via a download link.
Physical submissions (USB drives, HDDs, or SSDs) will not be accepted.

Content Requirements

  • The use of AI tools must constitute a substantial part of the film production process
  • Accepted forms include, but are not limited to:
    • AI-assisted image generation
    • video generation
    • audio generation
    • text generation
  • The creative use of AI must be briefly described, including the tools and workflow used

Language & Subtitles

  • Films may be submitted in any language
  • Films not originally in English must include English subtitles

Rights & Usage

  • Submitters confirm that they hold all necessary copyrights and usage rights and grant the festival all required screening rights free of charge for the duration of the festival
  • The festival reserves the right to use stills and short excerpts for promotional purposes

Important Notes

  • A maximum of two films per submission may be entered
  • No changes can be made after submission

Travel & Accommodation

Travel, hotel, and catering expenses are the responsibility of the filmmakers.
However, we offer discounted allocations through our festival partners (hotels and restaurants).

Final Selection

Final acceptance or rejection notifications will be issued no later than four weeks before the start of the festival.
